Blink 182 Concert

On Friday, I had the opportunity to see the band Blink 182. I've been wanting to see them since 1992, but I had second thoughts of taking my son, five years ago, when they played here, at Kemper Arena. I go to lot's of concerts, and though, I'm not concerned about content for myself, I believe parents should be aware of content. My son is 18, and old enough to see them.

They are amazing, to say the least. Albiet the fact that now, after a year, and with DJ Am's death a few days ago, Kansas City's Blink 182 concert, was the first one they played after it happened. DJ Am was in the same plane wreck, as Travis Barker. The other passengers died, and Travis got burned. Along with Blink 182, were Weezer, and Taking Back Sunday.I didn't see the other bands, and I didn't care to. Traffic took me 2 hours to get to Sandstone, when it should've taken me 25 minutes.

Well, sometimes, I can go to a concert, laugh, and go home, no feelings afterward, but with this concert, something occurred. I'm not sure what it was. I mean, sure, their music is about "doing your mother", "doing your girlfriend", "doing yourself," and not acting your age....for the most part...but when Blink 182 go off on emotional issues, they go off loud.

There was certainly a dark side to this show. DJ Am was Travis Barker's close friend. I think that DJ Am had alot of personal feelings that were never dealt with correctly. All of this came from the fact that he was one of 2 survivors from a horrific plane wreck. The thing is, I felt an odd energy, and I think it is the fact, that as of now, Travis just realized he is the only survivor in the wreck. I look for energy in somethings, and this is how I read it. Infact, I think it hit him just last night. I hope his music and fans, and friends, and band, can lift him out of this. So, I asked my Twitter followers, 2, 700 or more, to send him light blue energy, if they know how to do it. I hope that was retweeted. I think he needs it. If we reach out fo him, even distantly, he'll have a more ease of coping.

Blink 182 are amazing, and I can't say that enough. Here's their set list:

Dumpweed, Feeling This, The Rock Show, What's My Age Again?, Obvious, I Miss YOu, Stay Together for the kids, Down, Always, Stockholm Syndrome, First Date, Man Overboard, Going Away to College, Not Now, All the Small things, REckless Abandon, Josie, Anthem, Part 2.

Encore: Carousel, Dammit

Their sound was tight. They communicated in a friendly and upbeat manner, and it was constant energy emulating from the stage. They played nonstop, and I don't believe the Kansas City Star did them the honor that the band deserved. Questions? email me: webrstraw@gmail.com or twitter @rhonlynn
